She’s voting for Stein, and doesn’t care if Trump wins

It’s perhaps the worst nightmare for Democrats across the country – Donald Trump wins the election because a contingent of left-leaning voters dismiss Kamala Harris for Green Party Candidate Jill Stein. It’s happened before. In 2000, Green candidate Ralph Nader took enough votes away from Democrat Al Gore to hand a very close election to George W Bush.

Nevertheless, Medium.com’s Leila Johnson is supporting Stein in 2024 and insists she doesn’t care if Trump wins as a result of left-leaners like her supporting the Green candidate.

In her article, I’m Voting Green And I Don’t Care If Trump Wins, she expresses frustration on numerous fronts.

“Many of us are sick and tired of participating in these fake elections,” she started.

“We watch the news and the videos. Then we read the false and obscure interpretations of the images we saw with our own eyes.”

“I will admit, I fell for it before. Trump scares. The Polar vortex. Covid. Doomsday angst is catchy and emotional, but clickbait will only fool the average person once. After that, it’s just noise.”

“We were tricked into arguing about surficial social issues that ultimately affect and benefit the upper class. First, it was gay marriage, then it was abortion.”

“I don’t care if Trump wins. I don’t care if the presidential party is red or blue. If you think there is a difference between the two, you are delusional and misinformed, hanging onto a dream of a past that never existed, a tale of lies, a narrative to fool and sedate the masses.”

She discusses a number of issues, all of which resonate more with the left than the right: school shootings, police brutality against Blacks, the exploitation of Hispanic immigrants, the rich getting richer, and ‘capitalism on steroids.’

On U.S. foreign policy, she wrote, “This is not only about Palestine. This is about Congo, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. Millions of people are discarded like trash for profits, a shorter pipeline, a quicker turnaround, and a new version of a cell phone we bought 6 months ago. The air we breathe and the ground we live on are simply collateral damage.”

Johnson reminds us that MAGA isn’t the only group angry and distrustful of the government and media. Like some in MAGA, she’s probably well-intentioned but lacks information from reliable sources. Brainwashing isn’t limited to today’s far-right.

Anyone in 2000 who thought Bush and Gore were essentially the same candidate was mightily confused. And anyone, today, who thinks Harris and Trump are roughly the same is beyond deranged.

I truly admire Johnson’s deep commitment to humanitarianism and genuine care for people of all races and nationalities. However, it’s crucial for her to recognize the significant differences between Trump and Harris. If Trump wins, she might have to learn – the HARD way – how his approach diverges from Harris’s policies.

Even now, remnants of Ralph Nader’s Green Party of 2000 still exist. How much impact they’ll have in 2024 remains to be seen.
