This is just another example of how MAGA thrives on the uninformed.
While campaigning in Pennsylvania yesterday, former President Donald Trump told his audience the U.S. was to blame for Putin’s unprovoked war in Ukraine.
“It’s our fault because it’s been a war that should have never been allowed to happen and we had the power that it would never have happened,” Trump stated.
THE LIKELY TRUTH: Russia’s February 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine was planned years before it happened, during the Trump Administration or earlier.
Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin likely intended to attack sooner but didn’t anticipate Trump’s re-election loss in 2020 or the COVID pandemic that same year. Had Trump remained president, Putin would have likely had his blessing and the U.S. would have barely aided Ukraine, if at all. In fact, immediately after Russia attacked, Trump described it as “genius” and “savvy.”
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”
When President Biden defeated Trump, America’s heavy support for Ukraine became an unintended obstacle for Putin but he followed through anyway.
And let’s not forget that Phase I of Russia’s attempt to take over Ukraine occurred in February and March 2014 when Russia brazenly invaded the Crimean Peninsula, a region of Ukraine, and subsequently annexed it. The aggressive move violated international law and ignited the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War.
The War in Ukraine would have happened regardless of who was the American president and it would be silly to believe otherwise.
