No, a Venezuelan gang has not taken over an apartment complex in Aurora, CO

More disinformation by the desperate right.

There’s a viral video floating around with supposed Venezuelan thugs taking over an apartment complex in Aurora, CO.

On Wednesday, FOX31 obtained video from the complex showing a group of armed men ascending a stairwell and gathering around the door of one unit before entering.

But, according to police in Aurora, it’s not true.

Aurora Police Department Interim Chief Heather Morris firmly addressed the swirling rumors and misconceptions surrounding The Edge at Lowry apartments in a late Friday press conference.

She emphatically stated, “Gang members have not taken over” the complex, directly countering the alarming narrative that had been circulating. Chief Morris’s assertive tone left no room for ambiguity as she sought to set the record straight and allay community concerns.

The interim chief’s statement underscores the department’s commitment to transparency and its proactive approach to addressing public safety issues. By confronting the rumors head-on, Morris demonstrated the Aurora Police Department’s dedication to maintaining open lines of communication with residents and preventing the spread of misinformation that could potentially escalate tensions or create unnecessary panic within the community.

Aurora Police Interim Chief Morris stated that officers investigating the area have gained new insights from residents, revealing a different perspective on the situation.

“I’m not saying that there’s not gang members that don’t live in this community,” Morris said. “But what we’re learning out here is that gang members have not taken over this complex.”

“We’re standing out here, and I can tell you that gang members have not taken over this complex.”

Through the years, the right has gotten quite good at creating fake videos and narratives to scare Americans into thinking things are much worse than they really are.
